This is an exciting bushwhack and climbs one of the "100 highest". From the Loj, head to Marcy Dam and then towards Avalanche Camps. Split from the trail and follow a brook towards Caribou Pass. Once in the pass, climb to the top of Avalanche Mountain ridge and enjoy the somewhat tree-obscured views of Colden. Descend by the same route.
